Benzyl chloride is a colourless liquid with a strong, pungent, sweetish odour. It is used as a starting material in the manufacture of various chemicals, including pharmaceuticals, dyes and plastics. It is also used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other chemicals. Benzyl chloride is highly toxic and can be harmful if inhaled or ingested. It can cause irritation to the eyes, skin and respiratory system.
