2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is a highly toxic persistent organic pollutant and is considered one of the most toxic substances known to humans. TCDD has been shown to cause a range of health effects, including cancer, birth defects and endocrine disruption. It is also a potent environmental toxin and its widespread presence in the environment has led to extensive contamination of wildlife and the food chain.
