Acetonitrile is a colourless liquid organic compound. It is a common solvent used in a variety of industrial and laboratory applications, including the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, plastics and resins. Acetonitrile is highly flammable and should be handled with care. Acetonitrile is a by-product of the combustion of certain fuels and is found in cigarette smoke. It is toxic if ingested or inhaled and can irritate the skin and eyes.
