Aroclors are a group of chlorinated aromatic compounds that have been used as flame retardants and plasticizers in a variety of products, including electrical equipment, plastics, rubber and textiles. Aroclors were banned in the United States in 1979 due to concerns about their persistence in the environment and possible health effects. They have been shown to accumulate in the body and have been linked to a number of negative health effects, including cancer and reproductive and developmental problems.
