Butyl methacrylate is a clear, colourless liquid with a characteristic pungent odour. It is an ester of methacrylic acid and butyl alcohol. It is primarily used as a starting material for the production of various polymers such as butyl methacrylate-based copolymers, which are used in a wide range of applications including coatings, adhesives and sealants, and is also used in dental fillings and in biomedical applications as a component of bone cement and tissue adhesives.
