Dichromates are compounds that contain two chromium atoms in the oxidation state 6. They are often used as oxidizing agents in various chemical reactions, for example in photography, oil drilling and glazing ceramics. Common examples of dichromates include potassium dichromate and sodium dichromate. They are also used in the manufacture of dyes and pigments and in the purification of certain metals.
