Red fuming nitric acid is a highly corrosive and toxic liquid consisting of a mixture of nitric acid and nitric oxide. It is used in the manufacture of explosives and rocket propellants and also as an oxidizing agent in chemical synthesis. It is usually stored and handled in pressurised containers and should be handled with care as it can cause skin and eye irritation.
