1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic Acid, o-Phthalic Acid

Phthalic acid is used as a feedstock in the production of phthalate esters, which are widely used as plasticizers in the production of flexible plastics such as PVC. Phthalic acid is also used in the production of alkyd resins, which are used in the manufacture of paints, inks and adhesives. It is a colourless crystalline solid that is soluble in water and has a low melting point.
