Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are a group of man-made organic chemicals that contain chlorine and carbon. They are used in many industrial and commercial applications such as electrical equipment, paints, plastics and heat transfer fluids. PCBs are associated with health risks such as cancer, immune system suppression and reproductive problems. They have been banned in many countries because of their toxicity.
