Sodium hypochlorite is a chemical compound that is commonly known as bleach. It is a clear, pale yellow to greenish liquid that is highly reactive and has strong oxidizing and disinfecting properties. Sodium hypochlorite is widely used as a cleaning and disinfecting agent in a variety of applications, including household bleach, laundry detergents, water treatment and pool chlorination. It can also be used as a bleach for textiles, paper and food products.
