Tetrabromoethane (TBE) is a colorless liquid that is used as a flame retardant in a variety of applications, including plastics, textiles and electronics. TBE is added to materials to reduce their flammability and prevent the spread of fire. It is also used as a solvent in the manufacture of other flame retardant compounds. TBE is considered a toxic substance and exposure to high concentrations can cause effects on the respiratory and nervous systems.
