Lubricating oils, also known as lubricants, are substances that are used to reduce friction and wear between two contact surfaces. Mineral lubricating oils, or hydrocarbon-based lubricating oils, are made from refined petroleum and are the most common type of lubricant used in a wide range of applications, such as transportation, manufacturing and energy.
