Sodium cyanide is a highly toxic chemical compound that is primarily used to extract gold and silver from ores in the mining industry. It is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and has a neutral pH. Sodium cyanide forms a highly toxic solution when mixed with water, which can cause serious harm if ingested or inhaled. For this reason, its handling and use must be strictly controlled. Sodium cyanide is also used in the manufacture of other chemicals such as hydrogen cyanide and potassium ferrocyanide.
