Light alkylate is a type of alkylate that is obtained by alkylating isobutane with olefins such as propylene or butylene. In the case of light alkylate, the alkyl group is a chain of carbon atoms with single bonds and the resulting compound is a mixture of alkylbenzenes. Light alkylate is a colourless, sweet-smelling liquid that is highly flammable. It is often used as a blending component in gasoline to increase octane and reduce harmful emissions. It is also used as a solvent and as a raw material for the production of chemicals such as detergents and plastics.
