Benzene is the term used to describe a mixture of benzene, toluene and xylenes. Benzene is a colourless liquid with a sweet, pleasant smell. Toluene is a clear, colorless liquid with a sweet, pungent odor. Xylene is a colourless liquid with a sweet smell. These chemicals are often found together in crude oil and are used in the manufacture of a variety of chemicals, including plastics, resins, synthetic fibers, rubber, dyes, detergents, pharmaceuticals, and other products.
