Bleach is a chemical product that is used for a variety of purposes, including cleaning, disinfecting and bleaching. It is a solution of sodium hypochlorite in water and is commonly used in households and industry. Sodium hypochlorite is a strong oxidizing agent which gives the bleach its disinfecting and bleaching properties. When used in a dilute solution, bleach can effectively destroy a wide range of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses and fungi. However, it can also be harmful to humans and pets when ingested or inhaled in high concentrations and can damage some materials if used carelessly.
