Tetrachloromethane
Carbon tetrachloride, also known as carbon tetrachloride, is a colourless, non-flammable liquid that has a sweetish, ether-like odour. It is used as a solvent, extinguishing agent, refrigerant, and an ingredient in the manufacture of some pesticides and other chemicals. However, its use has been largely phased out due to its toxicity and the fact that it contributes to ozone depletion in the upper atmosphere. Long-term exposure to carbon tetrachloride can cause serious damage to the liver, kidneys and central nervous system. It has been banned in many countries because of its toxic properties.
