DOP
Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) is a colorless, oily liquid that is used as a plasticizer, which means it is added to plastics to increase their flexibility and durability. DOP is commonly used to make PVC (polyvinyl chloride) plastics such as pipes, wire and cable insulation and upholstery. DOP is not chemically bound to the plastics to which it is added and can be easily released into the environment through the use of products containing DOP. For these health and environmental reasons, the use of DOP has been restricted in some countries.
