Ethyl cellulose is a white, tasteless and odourless powder that is derived from cellulose, the main structural component of plant cell walls. It is a non-ionic, water-insoluble polymer used in a variety of applications such as thickening, gelling and film-forming agents in food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. It is also used as a binder and lubricant in the manufacture of tablets and capsules and as a coating agent for controlled release pharmaceuticals. It is also used as a rheology modifier in the manufacture of paints, inks and coatings.
