Ethene
Ethylene (ethene) is a colourless, flammable gas with a sweet, musty odour. It is used in the manufacture of plastics, including polyethylene, which is the most widely used plastic in the world. It is also used in the production of other chemicals such as ethylene oxide, which is used to make antifreeze and cleaning products. Ethylene is also used in the ripening of fruit and vegetables and in agriculture it is used as a plant growth regulator.
