Fatty acids are organic molecules made up of a long chain of carbon atoms with a carboxyl group at one end and a methyl group at the other. They are an important component of fats and oils and are essential for the proper functioning of many bodily processes. Fatty acids have many uses in the body and in industry. In industry, they are used in the manufacture of soaps, detergents and cosmetics as well as in the production of lubricants and emollients. They are also used as a raw material for the production of biodiesel.
