2-Hydroxypropanoic Acid
Lactic acid is a naturally occurring alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that is found in a variety of foods and is also produced by the body during exercise. It is used in many industrial applications such as food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and personal care products, and in the processing of textiles and leather. It is also used in many cleaning and disinfecting products. When heated to high temperatures, lactic acid can be more effective in some applications, such as cleaning and disinfection, due to its increased solubility and better ability to penetrate surfaces.
