Tetrachloromethane, Carbon Tetrachloride, R-10, Freon 10
Refrigerant type 10 (R-10), chemically called carbon tetrachloride, is a transparent volatile liquid with a peculiar aromatic sweetish odour. It is used as a fire extinguishing agent, organic solvent, refrigerant and raw material for the production of Freon. It is also used for the manufacture of detergents and pesticides. However, due to environmental concerns, its production has declined sharply since the 1980s.
