Styrene, also known as vinylbenzene, is a colourless, flammable liquid hydrocarbon that is widely used as a monomer in the manufacture of various plastics, rubber and synthetic fibres. It has a sweetish fruity odour and is classified as a hazardous substance due to its potential health effects.
