Due to its spherical shape and relatively small sealing area, the seal achieves a high specific pressure during installation and thus very good sealing properties.
The spherical shape and relatively small sealing area of the gasket allow it to achieve high specific pressure during installation and thus very good sealing properties.
Lens seals withstand high specific pressure and are therefore safe against "overstressing". Further advantages are the virtually complete resistance to ejection of the seal and the larger contact area compared to RTJ seals.
Lens seals require a corresponding shape of the sealing surface of the flange, most often a conical shape with an opening angle of 140°. The spherical shape of the seal gradually deforms relative to this surface as the gauge pressure increases, thus increasing the real sealing area.
