Mercury is a heavy silvery metal that is liquid at room temperature. It belongs to a group of metals known as heavy metals, which are known for their high density and toxicity. Mercury has a number of unique properties, such as the ability to expand and contract significantly with changes in temperature, and the ability to form alloys with other metals such as gold and silver.
